Google's Android update tackles motion sickness, accessibility, and more

Google announced five updates to the Android operating system to improve accessibility and user experience. To combat motion sickness while viewing a phone in a vehicle, the new Motion Assist feature adds a customizable moving bubble overlay to the display on Android 17 devices. Additionally, Google is releasing Guided Vision for devices running Android 9 and above, which pairs Gemini with the camera to guide visually impaired users through spoken directions and visual analysis.

The update also expands the role of Gemini in daily tasks through the Find Hub, where users can prompt the assistant to log the locations of important items along with photos. Furthermore, Google Messages now supports custom individual chat themes and integrates with Google Keep to let contacts edit shared lists directly within conversations. These updates showcase how mobile operating systems are integrating multimodal artificial intelligence assistants directly into system utilities to aid physical navigation and daily organization.

Google introduced Motion Assist for Android 17 users to combat motion sickness in moving vehicles through an interactive screen overlay.
